- CMP had a very
healthy 10% profit margin last year of $55 million. That money was sent
out of Maine to the Iberdrola Corporation in Spain.
- CMP’s proposals are a
blatant example of corporate greed.
- While Central Maine
Power executives receive bonuses, they’re demanding major concessions from
their workers, particularly in retirement and healthcare benefits.
- CMP’s workers are
there for Maine year-round, working long hours in rain and snow, in the
heat of summer and in the dead of winter, keeping the lights on in our
homes and businesses.
- CMP’s workers are
taking a stand for the next generation of workers here in Maine.
- One company proposal
would have eliminated pensions for new hires. Another would have sharply
limited health insurance benefits for retirees, making them difficult to
afford.
- CMP’s proposed
concessions may very well mean that some of their workers will not be able
to afford medical insurance and will be forced to seek some form of public
assistance for healthcare, thereby shifting this expense from CMP to the
taxpayers. This could pose a long-term threat to Maine’s economy.
